Last week, at the National Executive, the : "Refusing to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is disrespect to Constitution."
When Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was asked for his opinion, he said: "Bharat Mata ki Jai is not merely a slogan. It was a mantra of inspiration to countless freedom fighters during the independence struggle. It is the heartbeat of a billion people today. It is the reiteration of our constitutional obligations as citizens to uphold its primacy.”
While everyone's discussing whether people should be 'forced' to raise slogans, veteran historian Irfan Habib has said that the idea of 'Bharat Mata' is not even Indian., 'Bharat Mata' was an import from Europe and there was no evidence of any such imagination in either ancient or medieval India.
So, did the idea of 'Bharat Mata' come from Britannia? In the 2nd century, Roman Britannia came to be personified as a goddess, armed with a trident and shield and wearing a Corinthian helmet. She sat on a lion too.
The picture above is that of Goddess Britannia.
And, here's how 'Bharat Mata' is portrayed.
“Bharat Mata has nothing to do with India’s ancient or medieval past. It is a European import. Notions of motherland and fatherland were talked about in Europe,” Prof. Habib in the memory of late historian Bipan Chandra at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The historian said Indians never represented their country in human form as a mother or father, it was an European concept.
Habib's statement comes even as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat has instructed his men to do everything to spread 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' all across the country and the world.
On Sunday, Bhagwat said that people who "did not want to stand with the qualities of Bharat, have already carved out a separate country for them."
“We have to create so great an India that people will themselves say Bharat Mata ki Jai. We don’t need to force it on anybody. We have to give direction to the world with our life. There is no need to force our system and thoughts on anyone; there should be a desire to consider the whole world as ours,” a statement issued by RSS affiliate Bharatiya Kisan Sangh on Monday quoted Bhagwat as saying.
"We want to make Bharat (India) rich, free from exploitation and full of self-respect. For that we will have to live that Bharat in our lives,” Bhagwat had said at the launch of a book on the life of late Madan Lal Agarwal, co-founder of Friends of Tribals Society.

Manohar Parrikar who is commonly a DUKOR MONTRI has always been after the Christian community and their festivities. Posorkar has internally worked out that he would not allow people on Anjediva Island for the feasts, as the indian navy has been building luxury resort for their families there and fooling Goans by making up fake terrorist threats. Manohar Parrikar is the most communal man in the history of Goa and should be really done away with. He is busy trying to usurp land by force from Goans and the indian navy has been looting Goa ever since they invaded Goa in 1961.
Calling this posorkar a defence minister is out of way. Better word is DUKOR MONTRI or dukrancho montri would suit him better. Parrikar has always been aiding the indian navy to grab as much land as possible from Dabolim and other parts of Goa. Indian navy has plans of converting all the Goan islands into their personal luxury resort and the grabbing of these islands in the name of fake terrorist attacks are created by indian navy to forcibly take away Goan land from the Goans and loot Goa and Goans.
Fake news of terrorism is being spread by indian navy to force Goans living on islands to part away with their land. God forbid and hope Almighty God destroys the indian navy along with posorkar Manohar Parrikar and the rest of the communal BJP gang that is ruling Goa currently.
You will agree with me that Goa is systematically militarized. Matanhy Saldanha who wanted the Navy out of Dabolim for its illegal occupation and who was against MOPA Airport [which is the brain-child of the Indian Navy to digest Dabolim's age-old Civilian Airport] was removed from the scene as incompatible. They named a building in his name and put up his statue in the village he was born in. Is that it??? And we have kept quiet having been pacified?
Every Central Agency is making a bee line for Goa. Why? Because our own Goan Chamchas are hand in gloves with the Centre to feather their own nests? Is this not obvious? Is Goa having volatile borders? When the Indian Navy liberated East Pakistan [Now Bangladesh], did they stay there? Why did the Navy stay and take control of Dabolim, Goa's Civilian Airport since 1955, and not leave after 'Operation Vijay'?
I want to stand up to these indignities as a bonafide GOAN. Will you, my brothers and sisters support me to free Goa from this new generation colonialists who are masquerading as DEMOCRATIC ANGELS, and who are, in fact, dividing and sub-dividing us GOANS so that they can have the cake which has been baked for us GOANS by our fore-fathers, and eat it too?
Coming Saturday [5th March] I, Floriano Lobo, the committed citizen of Goa who was born in 1947 and who loves Goa and who does not want Goa to be militarized for nothing, am packing my lunch and dinner bag all in one with enough water to last me for a day and the night, and am going to park myself at the Quitol Plateau, whether the enemies of Goa are going to allow me or not, spread my 'shendri' and bask in the GOD GIVEN SUN, not to allow my Goa to be militarized and not to get the bitter curses from Goa's posterity for allowing this to happen when I am gone.
Will you, my Goan sisters and brothers join me to safe-guard AMCHEM BANGARACHEM GOEM for our children and the children of our children so that when we go to lie down six-feet underground, we could relax in the understanding that we have done what was expected of us??
Therefore, do decide whether it is going to be the coming Saturday that you are going to sacrifice for the betterment of your GOA. For, our Bangarachem Goem needs us to do this SACRIFICE for the sake of our POSTERITY.
